Modern Street Food

Street food has been around for centuries, dating back to ancient civilizations such as Rome and China. In Rome, street vendors sold a variety of foods including bread, olives, and wine. In China, street food vendors sold small portions of food, such as dumplings and noodles, to people who were on the go. 

During the Middle Ages, street food became even more popular as people began to travel more and needed a quick and easy way to eat. In Europe, street vendors sold a variety of foods including pies, roasted meat, and baked goods.

In the 19th century, street food became even more popular as urbanization grew and people moved to cities. In the United States, street vendors sold hot dogs, pretzels, and roasted peanuts. In Mexico, street vendors sold tacos and tamales. In India, street vendors sold chaat and samosas.

Despite its popularity, street food has often been viewed as unsanitary or unsafe. In the early 20th century, many cities began to regulate street food vendors in an attempt to improve sanitation and safety. In some cases, street food vendors were banned altogether. 

Todays Street Food

Today, street food is still a popular way to eat in many parts of the world. In fact, some cities have even embraced street food as a way to promote tourism and local culture. For example, Bangkok, Thailand is known for its street food scene, which includes everything from pad thai to mango sticky rice.
